The mess

It all began with boredom.

Like everyone else, when the pandemic hit, I was stuck at home trying to keep myself busy. My Netflix shows were maxed out, I organized my kitchen too many times to count, and wasn’t about to rearrange my furniture again.

I decided to turn to my next distraction—crafting. I was painting tiny floral arrangements and making homemade greeting cards to send my friends. I wanted something more challenging. The holidays were fast approaching and thought “It would be great to make my friends some ornaments!” I was thinking maybe I could make them a tiny miniature village, but it just didn’t seem that personal. Then the idea struck, “What if I try to make an ornament of their house?” And the challenge was born.

With each new house, I wanted to keep trying different things to get as accurate and detailed as possible. I turned my spare room into a studio, bought a laser cutter that I taught myself to use (and still am!), as well as invested in many more crafting tools. I was spending hours making these little houses, and best of all, I LOVED it. As I kept making them, more and more people requested one. Someone wanted one to showcase the new house they just built. Another wanted one to remember a childhood home. Whatever the request was, I was so happy to be able to bring such big joy with something so tiny!
